Mount Vernon Terrace is a well-established care home which has been providing high quality residential care for adults with mental health problems for almost 30 years. Mount Vernon Terrace is a mental health only registered home. We strive to take care of every aspect of an individual’s care which is carefully tailored to the individuals needs and carried out by our trained carers.
The Management Team
All employees at Mount Vernon Terrace go through a tough process, prior to being employed to ensure we have the best possible carers to join our team. We have implemented a comprehensive training programme throughout the home. Come and meet our staff and find out for yourself.
Mount Vernon Terrace is inspected by Nottingham City Council and The Care Quality Commission (CQC), formerly the Commission for Social Care Inspection (CSCI) regularly. They regulate and inspects all adult social care services in the public, private and voluntary sectors in England.
We are committed to accomplishing the highest standards of care. The home is registered with the CQC; Nottingham City Council enabling them to have a working partnership with Mount Vernon Terrace to ensure the best quality service is being delivered at all times.
We encourage new residents to bring personal possessions such as pictures, ornaments, small items of furniture etc to personalise their room and make it feel like “home”. When you arrive at the home, you will be shown your room and the most senior person on duty will complete the admission paperwork (this is a lengthy process and may take several hours). You will be shown around the home and receive a general introduction to all of the staff. You will be asked about your needs and preferences. We ask you to participate in planning your care along with your family or advocate. It can be a very unsettling time, and we understand that you may be anxious, so please feel free at any time to ask any questions, or voice any concerns you may have.
The home welcomes service users from all sects of the community and on admission, individuals must be aged between 18 and 65 years.
Summary of Home Facilities
The home is fully furnished and comprises of two lounges, dining room, kitchen, two bathrooms and several toilet facilities, located on various floors. There are both single and double rooms, fitted with modern bedroom furniture, wash basins with hot and cold water, central heating, secondary lighting and up to date fire alarm smoke detectors. All our exits are secure. You can feel free to use any area of the home at any time. A fuller description of the home and room measurements can be found in the full statement of purpose.
There is also a popular “Games Room” which consists of a full size pool table, dart board, music and TV and video facilities.
Mount Vernon Terrace is ideally located for those who enjoy going out. The home overlooks the famous Goose Fair site and is just several minutes walk away. Opposite the home is the Arboretum Park which is peaceful and perfect in the summer. At the end of the road is the city centre which again is within easy walking distance or can be reached by a relaxing, lazy ride on the tram. Service users are given the freedom to go out and come home whenever they wish.
You and your relatives will be actively involved in planning your care - shortly after admission we will arrange to meet with you and formally agree your care plan. This plan is available to you at all times. The plan is reviewed at least every six months with the Home Manager and yourself.
Your plan is kept in the office and is secure at all times. It is always available to you and authorised persons to review.
When you come into the home all medicines are checked against your prescription and kept in the medicine cabinet. Medication are administered by trained staff at medication rounds throughout the day.
Medication round times:
08:00, 13:00, 17:00 and 21:00. Medications can be given at other times, if you have any specific request please see the most senior person on duty. No medication should be kept in bedrooms unless a self medication care plan and risk assessment is in place.
Our local chemist, Boots pharmacy provides a delivery service for any medication prescribed by your GP.
We do not have a mini bus at Mount Vernon Terrace. However, we do hire a 15 seater mini bus for the day when going out on day trips, etc.
We do have a courtesy car to take service users to GP appointments, Out Patient appointments, social events, etc.
All laundry is done on site by our own staff. Please ensure all clothes are labelled and easily machine washable.
Laundry is collected by the housekeeping staff and returned to rooms usually within 2 days, your relatives may wish to launder delicate items themselves and laundry bins can be provided in your bedroom for this purpose. Dry cleaning is done off-site and is chargeable. Please let staff know if you require any special arrangements.
Meals and Mealtimes
We will complete a food preference sheet with you on admission. Meals are served:
08:00 - 09:30 Breakfast
12:00 - 13:30 Lunch
16:30 - 18:00 Tea
20:00 - 21:00 Supper
Staff are able to prepare snacks at any time during the day. Breakfast is a choice of cereals, toast, full cooked breakfast or practically any other requested item. Our main hot meal is at lunch time and there is always a choice. We work to a four week menu rota. We can meet any special requests and are happy to cater for your relatives, and they are welcome to join you for a meal anytime - please give notice to the cook where possible.
Complaints, Comments, Suggestions
We have a very clear and easy to follow complaints procedure which is enclosed within this guide. We have a suggestion book at the side entrance, which is checked monthly - please feel free to make any comments. We will actively seek your reviews on services provided and welcome any
constructive criticism, ideas and indeed praise for nay aspect of care, management or service provision.
If at any time you are concerned or dissatisfied with ANYTHING, however small of trivial please bring it to our attention immediately. All staff are trained in dealing with complaints.
